My Mom

The wind did it! Its an act of God! Give me another! My mom, Angie, worked at Weather Vane Ice Creme in 1971, and had a funny story to tell me. This is how it went:

One day when I was working at Weather Vane, a lady wanted to buy an ice creme cone. I made the cone and kindly gave it to her. As she was walking a way she dropped the cone on the ground, She then turned around and asked for another one. I made the cone and handed it to her, and no sooner than I handed her the cone she dropped it AGAIN!!! So now she asked for ANOTHER cone so I told her that she would have to pay for this one. The lady then started arguing with me. So I made another cone for her and told her to stick out her hand. So the lady complied. I the took the cone and smashed it into the lady's hand.

I lived in Granite City until I was a junior in High School. My best friend (Phyllis Mercer) and I loved to go to the Weathervane. I was friends with Jennifer Sage. If my memory serves me right her father was the original owner. Just as I was ready to move from away Granite City my best friend Phyllis got a summer job at the WeatherVane.

I remember how I wished we could have worked there together.

I remember the lollipop sundaes. I remember the icebergs. But most of all I remember how friendly and nice all of the people were who worked there.

I can still taste the ice cream. I now live in Atlanta, Georgia but I will never find anything to ever match the taste of your great ice cream or all of the fond memories I have of your icecream shop.
